Here is a little piece of history about Brookeville, MD, and how it was named. A Brief History of Brookeville, Maryland Oakley Cabin in Brookeville, MD, was part of Oakley Farm that formerly occupied the land tract known as "Addition to Brooke Grove". The mansion (now gone) was home to Colonel Richard Brooke, the "Fighting Quaker" of the Revolutionary War. The farm prospered in the late 1700s with the growth of Brookeville, the village named after this industrious Quaker family. The manor house and land passed to Col. Brooke's daughter Ann, who with her husband William Hammond Dorsey of Georgetown remained there until his death in 1818. |
